Sun Damage Doesn’t Take a Winter Vacation

Do I need SPF in the Winter?

Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean your skin can’t be damaged by UV rays. In fact, being out in the cold can lead to double the UV damage because snow reflects up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays back onto the skin. And UV damage is one of the major causes of premature skin aging. So be sure you’re wearing a daily moisturizer with broad-spectrum SPF protection, like Sei Bella® Daytime Delivery Lotion or Creme.

The Sun Causes 90% of External Aging

Experts agree that when it comes to skin, sun is the #1 enemy. The sun emits two types of ultraviolet light waves that affect the skin in two very different ways.

UVA Rays
Long-wave UVA rays were relatively unknown until the mid 1990s. They penetrate through clothing, windows, windshields, and hats. They even penetrate through the epidermis and reach the dermis layer of the skin. The dermis is composed of collagen, elastin, blood vessels, and other elements that provide a firm foundation for the skin. UVA exposure cracks and breaks down collagen and elastin, leading to drooping, sagging skin and dilated blood vessels.

UVB Rays
Shortwave UVB rays penetrate the top layer of the skin—the epidermis—and stimulate melanin production, which leads to tanning or sunburn. Over time, the skin’s natural reaction to these rays causes sun spots, also called age spots or liver spots. UVB rays are the primary cause of skin cancer.

How UV Light Effects Skin - UVA and UVB

Protecting the skin from both of these harmful rays is essential to long-lasting skin health. That’s why Sei Bella daily moisturizers are formulated with broad-spectrum SPF. The daily use of an SPF is the only way to protect skin and keep it youthful-looking.
