Not a Vitamin Person

“I want my customers to know that I was like them: I didn’t take a supplement and didn’t think they mattered, but once I tried Oligo and understood the science, that’s when I really got it. I know that when others really understand the science, that’s when they’ll never go back.”

Yvette Zona didn’t take vitamins. She didn’t think they mattered. After all, she was in good health and had plenty of energy. Fortunately for Yvette, her presenter convinced her to try the 90-Day Challenge.

“I figured I’d just take the vitamins for 90 days and then get all my money back,” Yvette recalls.

Only something happened—Yvette took the vitamins daily, and she actually felt better.

“I felt totally different!” Yvette says. “I needed less sleep and had more energy. I started reading about nutrition and discovered how difficult it is for anyone to get all the nutrition they need without help. I learned that Oligo had superior absorption, and I’ve been taking Vitality Total ever since.”

Yvette shares her Oligo experience with every customer. “I want my customers to know that I was just like them: I didn’t take a supplement and didn’t think they mattered. But once I tried Oligo and understood the science, that’s when I really got it,” Yvette says. “I know that when others really understand the science, that’s when they’ll never go back.”

For people like Yvette who’ve never taken a vitamin before, taking the 90-Day Challenge means creating a new habit. Yvette encourages her customers to set an alarm to remind them each day. “You might not feel a huge difference right away,” Yvette says, speaking of the 90-Day Challenge. “But if you stop taking the Vitality Pack after a few weeks, you’ll feel the difference.”

Through sharing her story, explaining the science, and getting her customers to take the 90-Day approach, Yvette is seeing great success. Just recently, Yvette enrolled a customer who used to regularly purchase from another supplement company. “She watched the Oligo video and realized her old stuff was junk,” Yvette says. “And because of the 90-Day Challenge, she literally feels the difference Oligo makes. She left her old company and started building a Melaleuca business.”

Oligo® The Just Like Nature® solution to better daily health and nutrition

vitality-oligo
In a nutrient-starved world where even brand name supplements may not offer all the nutrition listed on the label, Oligo helps close the gaps and put you in control of your daily health and vitality

LIFE HAS A WAY OF WEARING YOU DOWN, pulling you in so many different directions that it becomes too easy to miss those little moments that make it so meaningful. Getting proper nutrition every day is the best way to safeguard your health and build yourself back up, but fewer and fewer of us are eating the right amounts of fruits and vegetables daily, and the vitamin and mineral supplements at the drugstore likely aren’t giving you everything you’re paying for. Only Oligo maximizes the potency of your supplements to ensure you get the nutrition you need to be your best and make the most of every moment.

Seeking solutions from nature
In fruits, vegetables and other whole foods, plants draw minerals from the soil, and then bind them to proteins and fibers. In this form, they are easier for the human body to use and absorb. Melaleuca set out to duplicate the process used by nature. Melaleuca scientists tested hundreds of mineral forms before developing what would become known as Oligo. And the results were nothing short of astounding.

Proper nutrition: more than diet alone
Studies show that fewer and fewer of us are eating the ideal amounts of fruits and vegetables every day. But even when we make an effort to eat healthier, we can still come up short. Modern farming practices combined with new varieties of crops and even changes in the soil add up to one thing—fruits and vegetables aren’t as healthy as they once were. That means getting the nutrition we need from food alone is more difficult than ever.

Not all supplements are created equal
At a time when health care costs are skyrocketing and benefit programs are more confusing than ever, more and more adults are attempting to take control of their health. An easy and proactive step is to take a daily multivitamin and mineral, but not all supplements are created equal. Minerals are notoriously difficult to absorb. In addition, Melaleuca scientists recognized that the mineral forms found in traditional multivitamins (gluconates, oxides, sulfates and fumerates) trigger massive free radical activity during digestion. These free radicals can cancel out the benefits of antioxidants like vitamins A, C and E. Even more alarming, when out of balance, free radical damage can disrupt bodily systems and can lead to serious health concerns.

Superior absorption
Oligo was developed to be Just Like Nature. Only Oligo binds minerals to organic compounds to mirror the way they are found in fruits, vegetables and other whole foods to maximize solubility. In fact, Oligo minerals are scientifically proven to provide up to four times greater absorption than the minerals found in leading brands.‡§

Maximum antioxidant protection Scientific studies show that Oligo reduces free radical activity, thereby protecting critical antioxidants up to five times better than the leading brands.§ Oligo also extends that protection throughout the entire body!

This protects the potency of your antioxidants and helps ensure that your body gets all the nutrition on the label.

5 Tips to stay on top of your 2014 weight loss goals

workout-girl
You vs February: Running low on fitness motivation? Don’t give up yet.

It hurts. You’re tired. It’s too early. You’re sore. The gym always plays obnoxious music. You hate getting sweaty. You feel ridiculous dressed like this. You look silly to all of these skinny, fit people. You never liked gym class anyway. Is this even making a difference?

Go ahead: Add your reason to quit working out to the list. You set a goal to get fit, lose weight and improve your health last month, and now you’re into the month where New Year’s resolutions go to die: February. This is when your workout stops feeling new and fun, and starts feeling downright hard.

Want your New Year’s resolution to survive February? Want to keep it up long enough to see actual results and really change your life? Yogi Berra said, “Baseball is 90 percent mental; the other half is physical”—and the same goes for your workout routine. Whether your exercise habit survives is going to depend more on what’s going on in your head than what’s going on in your aerobics class. So how do you get your head straightened out?

Find a Fitness Nemesis … er, Buddy
Having a fitness pal can be a positive, but it’s not for everybody. How do you know if it would be a good thing for you? Well, if your fitness friend outperformed you, would you

a) feel discouraged and quit working out?
b) feel competitive and try to get the upper hand by the next workout?
c) not even notice?
d) get angry and smash one of those large mirrors against the gym wall?

If you chose b) or c), go get a workout partner. If you chose a), keep working out solo. If you chose d), go see a psychiatrist. Having a partner keeps you accountable and gives you additional motivation. If that’s not enough, you could ask your workout buddy (or buddies) to publicly shame you with embarrassing pictures on a website or social media if you fail to show up for your workout. (For reference on how to do this properly, visit November-project.com/ category/we-missed-you/)

Get a Mantra
This trick comes from marathon runners and endurance athletes, but there’s no reason you can’t take this same strategy into the weight room or indoor cycling class. Choose a phrase, or even a single word, and repeat it when times get tough. One marathoner told The New York Times he repeats the phrase “pain is inevitable; suffering is optional” over and over again as he taps out 26.2 miles. Need a few more examples?

“You don’t have to feel good to run fast.”
“Sweat is your fat crying.”
“Bigger, stronger, faster.”
“Go hard or go home.”
“Pain is weakness leaving the body.”

Buy a Box of Access Bars
Yes, the Access Bar® will help you burn fat more efficiently, but that’s not the point of this particular tip. Purchase one box of your absolute favorite flavor of Access Bars and commit (pinky swear if you have to) to only eat a bar before a minimum 30-minute workout. There are 10 bars in each box, and that means you’ll have to do 10 workouts (or two and a half hours of exercise) this month.

If you’re already working out more than 10 times per month, double it and give me 20! That’ll be five hours of exercise per month. The point is, you’ll get a reward for deciding to do your workout, and you’ll have the added benefit of feeling less sore, which will help with your motivation to go do it again next month.

Keep a Workout Calendar
There’s an old saying about planning: “Plans are useless but planning is invaluable.” What does that mean? At the start of every week, write out your fitness plan. (If you want extra credit, you can write out your nutrition plan too.) Every time you fulfill a scheduled workout, draw a happy face over it on your calendar.

But suppose your planned workout doesn’t come through—the weather doesn’t cooperate or your workout buddies bail on you. If you replace your planned workout with another 30-minute workout, draw your smiley face anyway. If, on the other hand, you miss a workout, draw a sad face … or an angry face … in red ink … baring its teeth at you. You get the point.

Hang your workout calendar in a public place where your entire family can see it. At the end of the week, you and your family can look back to see what you did—or didn’t—accomplish.

Focus On The Process
Say you want to lose 15 pounds. When you step on the scale, will it inspire you to work harder? Or will it remind you how far you have yet to go? And how many nagging reminders can you take before you throw your hands up and quit?

If standing on the scale every day motivates you to get better, by all means, do it. But if measuring yourself every day leaves you feeling discouraged, for goodness’ sake, stop doing it. Instead, focus on what you have to do to achieve your goal: exercise and eat better.

Real results come when you execute your plan over the long term. In an ideal world, you’ll even come to enjoy it. And when that happens, goal or no goal, you’ll keep doing it.

Gut Feelings: The Link Between Probiotics and Mood

gut-feelings
gut-feelsThe terms “gut feeling” or “gut reaction” have been used for decades to express intuitive, personal feelings or instincts. But there’s a growing body of biological and clinical research that shows there’s a lot of truth behind those idioms.

What’s happening in the gut?

In many ways, the gut can be thought of as a minibrain center. It is filled with nerves and communicates directly with the brain, sending signals that make you feel hungry, full, or even sick. The gut is also full of microbial organism—about 100 trillion. These microorganisms (often referred to as gut flora or intestinal flora) provide a number of useful functions such as helping to extract energy from undigested carbohydrates, synthesizing some vitamins, and metabolizing a number of fluids.

What are Probiotics?

Probiotics are strains of bacteria that help maintain the natural balance of flora in the human gut. Simply put, there can be harmful or helpful bacteria in the gut, and taking probiotics (through food or a supplement) adds to the number of helpful bacteria and strengthens their ability to keep bad bacteria in check. What scientists are now discovering is that the flora itself has a direct influence on what messages are sent from the gut to the brain.

The probiotic mood connection

The ability of probiotics to influence brain chemistry and behavior was first demonstrated using mice.1 When mice were given a probiotic diet for two weeks, they exhibited fewer signs of measurable anxiety and lower levels of stress hormones. In fact, according to researcher John Cryan, the effects on behavior of the mice given probiotics were very similar to mice who were given an injection of valium.2 And while the research was promising, human flora is far more complex than mouse flora, so it was difficult to predict if a similar effect could be experienced by humans.

The real breakthrough came from a study led by Dr. Kirsten Tillisch of UCLA. In the study, healthy women from ages 18 to 55 were broken into three groups: one which ate probiotic-rich yogurt, another that ate a yogurt-like dairy product without probiotics, and a third that ate no product at all. After four weeks, the group of women who ate the probiotic-rich yogurt twice a day showed decreased engagement in the parts of the brain that integrate internal body sensations and emotional response—both while in a resting state and in response to an emotion recognition task.3 Simply stated, they remained calmer and more focused.

While more research needs to be done to determine which chemicals produced by the gut bacteria actually trigger the signals to the brain, the implications give a whole new meaning to the idea of “stress eating.” Think about it, a simple change to your diet may help improve your mood and better help you cope with stress and anxiety

Beneficial Bacteria Binge

So what are the best ways to get some extra probiotics into your day? Probiotics are found in foods packed with living yeast and bacteria species. Here’s a quick look at some common (and not so common) sources.

Finally, U.S. Doctors And Researchers Agree With Melaleuca Scientists! … Our Competitor’s vitamin supplements are essentially worthless!

scientific-research
In a recent editorial published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, a group of physicians who reviewed three studies published by other researchers concluded that the types of vitamin and mineral supplements sold by Melaleuca’s competitors are of no benefit to your health whatsoever. Worse than that, they may do more harm than good!

While Melaleuca was not specifically named in the editorial, these doctors’ conclusions are exactly what Melaleuca scientists announced almost five years ago. Melaleuca’s response to the editorial: It’s about time the rest of the nutrition world learned what we’ve been saying for years!

The results of the editorial published in the Annals of Internal Medicine were based on three research studies looking at the effects of multivitamins on preventing heart attacks and cancer, as well as improving cognitive function in men older than 65. “Most supplements do not prevent chronic disease or death, their use is not justified and they should be avoided,” the editorial stated.

That is pretty strong language, but Melaleuca is not surprised by the conclusions noted in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The problem is found in the type of minerals used in cheap grocery store supplements. Once you understand the potential damage that can be done by the cheap forms of minerals used by almost all of our competitors, it should be no surprise that the leading brands of supplements provide virtually no benefit to the user. And if you have been following Melaleuca’s research, the fact that those supplements may actually harm you should also be no surprise.

In the first place, inorganic forms of minerals like sulfates, gluconates and fumarates used by almost all of our competitors are difficult—if not impossible—for the human body to absorb. And in the second place, these inorganic minerals actually destroy the antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin E, that are in the same supplement tablet. Common sense would suggest that 1) since the minerals are not able to be absorbed, they can’t do you any good; and 2) if they destroy vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin E, those vitamins can’t do you any good either. The logical conclusion is that such a vitamin supplement is indeed worthless!

Researchers have demonstrated that certain inorganic forms of minerals (like iron and copper) act as free radical triggers when they enter the small intestine—setting off a cascade of free radical activity throughout the body. When left unchecked, free radicals can disrupt bodily systems and can lead to serious health concerns. Furthermore, antioxidant vitamins (A, C and E), which are essential to keeping free radicals in check, are virtually destroyed by the free radicals emitted by the minerals in those same supplement tablets.

Dr. Gladys Block, a professor of nutrition at the University of California, Berkeley who has spent her entire professional career studying the role of vitamin C on disease risk factors, points out that most Americans are undernourished. She says that “most Americans don’t have a healthy diet and therefore don’t get the vitamins and minerals they need.” She emphasized that vitamin mineral supplementation is essential to optimum health.

The knowledge that our modern diet leaves us far short of our daily nutritional needs for vitamins and minerals, and the fact that most vitamin mineral supplements are ineffective at remedying this serious health problem leaves both the medical and nutritional communities in a frustrated quandary of what to do.

We propose Oligo® as the solution. Five years ago, Melaleuca introduced Oligo technology, a revolutionary system that binds minerals to amino acids and fructose molecules. We also announced the fact that our competitors’ forms of inorganic minerals destroy antioxidant vitamins, and that means people taking those types of vitamins were not getting the nutrients that they thought they were. It stands to reason that they would also be even more susceptible to degenerative diseases than those not taking a vitamin mineral supplement because it is probable that those taking no supplement at all were getting at least some vitamin C, A and E from natural food sources, which would not have been destroyed by inorganic minerals. So it’s interesting to note that the recent editorial makes exactly that same point. Studies have now shown that those taking brand-name vitamin and mineral supplements actually have an increased chance of cancer and other degenerative diseases. Again, it is the type of inorganic minerals these companies are using that is destroying the vitamins and causing them to be of no benefit.

(Note: The recent editorial did not point out why it was happening, it just pointed out that it is happening!)

Many doctors and nutritionists were anxious to climb on the bandwagon and add their comments to the popular editorial. “Every time you take a store-bought vitamin, you are taking a chance with your health,” was the common theme to their comments.

Melaleuca Oligo logo

OLIGO: Tackling the Problem From the Ground Up

As usual, when you mess with nature, you cause problems! Melaleuca’s competitors mine minerals from the soil and process them as gluconate, oxides and fumarates. These forms are almost impossible for the body to absorb since they crystallize in the small intestine, creating a cascade of free radicals in the process. That is the problem! Humans were not designed to eat minerals from the soil. We were intended to obtain our minerals from plants! Melaleuca’s Oligo mimics how fruits and vegetables process minerals. Plants absorb minerals from the soil and bind them to proteins and fibers, making them much easier for the human body to absorb. And there is no explosion of free radicals in the process, so our bodies can get the benefit of vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin E in the same tablet.

STUDY RESULTS: Solubility
In a study at the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, Canada, irrefutable scientific data confirmed that Oligo delivers an unparalleled level of actual absorption through the intestinal wall. In fact, the study showed that Oligo provides up to four times greater absorption than other mineral forms.

STUDY RESULTS: Antioxidant Protection
The free radical impact of Oligo has been measured and proven in a number of studies.

One study showed that Oligo protects antioxidant vitamins five times better than the mineral forms found in the leading non-Oligo supplements. This means the antioxidant vitamins in Oligo are available to work in your body.

Another study clearly showed that Oligo supplements not only protect against dangerous free radical activity in the digestive tract, but extends that protection throughout the entire body—better than any non-Oligo supplement on the market.

The Goal of Supplementation:
Several studies support the assertion that Oligo is the market’s most bioavailable form of multivitamin and mineral supplement. And taking Oligo supplements twice a day will fill nutritional gaps in the diets of a population whose eating habits are deficient in many micronutrients that are critical to the proper function of bodily processes and systems.

Melaleuca.com is the market leader in providing natural solutions to support a healthy diet and physical well-being. Melaleuca vigorously advocates that both healthy diet and exercise are essential in achieving improved physical health and well-being.

We are pleased to see the scientific and medical communities agreeing with the science and facts that Melaleuca has been reporting for years regarding vitamin and mineral supplements. We are confident that as the facts about our competitors’ products become more widely known, more and more customers will seek out the proven nutritional solutions only Melaleuca’s Oligo can provide.

The Difference Is GC Control

gc-control-differenceDo you want to actively support a healthy weight—along with a healthy cardiovascular system and normal blood sugar metabolism?  It’s time to try GC Control.

Today, 80% of Americans over 25 years old are overweight. Many struggle to find ways to lose weight and 1 in 3 Americans are facing health challenges associated with blood sugar metabolism.

There’s no question: healthy blood sugar management has never been more important. No wonder people all over North America are looking for the clinically tested natural blood sugar support GC Control provides.

The difference starts here

The difference starts with GC Control’s exclusive, patent-pending blend of ingredients. Anchored by Oligo® chromium, this blend includes cinnamon bark extract, Korean red ginseng root, mulberry extract, green tea leaf extract, and sweet potato extract—each with specific natural benefits.

Together inside GC Control, these natural, concentrated ingredients have been clinically shown to help:

  • Support balanced glucose uptake and metabolism in healthy individuals
  • Support normal insulin activity in healthy individuals
  • Slow the absorption of high glycemic foods
  • Promote proper carbohydrate metabolism

Make a Difference?

Officially, it’s a blood sugar support supplement—but for the thousands of people who rely on it every day, GC Control is proving to be the difference in everything from energy support to weight management. Here are three ways GC Control can make a difference for you:

GC ControlMore Energy
What happens when your blood sugar levels rise and dip? Your energy goes down. When your blood sugar levels are constantly high, your body becomes more and more insulin-resistant, which further impairs your ability to properly metabolize blood sugar. As a result, you feel more fatigued. You’re no longer able to get all the energy you need from the foods you eat.

The feeling is similar when your blood sugar levels crash. You’ll feel a lack of energy—and experience hard-to-ignore cravings for more sweets and carbs. The processed carbs and sugars you may eat to regain your energy only continue this seesaw cycle of spiking and crashing.

How does it support more energy? GC Control helps support healthy, stable blood sugar levels thorughout the day, helping you avoid those energy-sapping spikes and crashes altogether. no wonder participants in the clinical study reported feeling more energy and less fatigue as well as reduced appetite.

Easier Weight Management
Not long after GC Control was launched, customers began to notice its effect on their ability to lose weight. By providing support for healthy blood sugar as well as helping to minimize carbohydrate and sugar cravings, GC Control was allowing them to avoid the processed carbs and sugars and the spikes and crashes that made staying on track with weight loss goals such a difficult chore.

But there is even more to it. By addressing healthy insulin response, GC Control can help you keep your body in fat-reduction mode.

How does it promote better fat reduction? When you eat a lot of carbohydrates, you blood sugar can spike, prompting your body to produce large amounts of insulin. That insulin prompts your body to stop breaking down fat for energy and store it instead. If you blood sugar remains high, your body can stay in “fat-storage mode,” where it’s difficult to lose weight.

But when your blood sugar stays within healthy levels, this promotes a healthy insulin response, allowing your body to naturally break down fats and sugars for energy. your weight loss efforts are optimized and weight loss is easier.
